The Pismo Preserve conservation area and public trail system encompasses 880 acres. This culturally sensitive land is adjacent to Route 101 in Pismo Beach. Because of the cultural importance to Native American groups, this project required constant archaeological observation during construction activities. The project also included improvements to the city’s Mattie Road and on-site construction of visitor center facilities, parking areas, restrooms, large retaining wall systems, site utilities, bridges, paved ADA trails and archaeological displays.
